Frequently asked Questions

How much does it cost?

The cost of construction can be slightly more expensive than conventional building, however when when considering the cost of the building project as a whole, the overall cost is very similar.  This is due to the lesser cost of lighter foundations, the months saved on P&Gs, holding costs, rentals, etc.

What are your holding costs each month your project is still under construction?

Do Banks / Councils / Estates accept it?

Light Steel Framing is standardized in SANS517, and is therefore accepted by banks, NHBRC, estates, and councils.

Isn't drywall weak and hollow - like at my office?

This is a far superior spec to what you're used to.  Our structural steel is of a heavier gauge, assembled stronger, insulated thermally and acoustically, boarded for fire resistance, and skimmed to a smooth finish.

Our internal walls are better for sound attenuation than brick walls, and our exterior EIFS walls (3.86 R) are better for thermal insulation than 220mm thick brick walls (0.35 R).

Why choose light steel?

  • Speed of construction means earlier occupation.

  • Neat and accurate building.

  • Green building, environmentally responsible.  Reduced impact on the environment.  Very little scrap or wastage.

  • Comfort:  Well insulated - warm in winter, cool in summer. Complies with SANS 10400 XA.

  • Reduces costs of heating and cooling.

  • Complies fully with SANS10400. Structurally sound – signed off by an engineer.

  • Cost effective building process.

  • Can be designed to resist earthquakes, high winds.

  • Facilitates vertical extensions.

  • Can be used to add on to masonry buildings.
